On-going Projects
Zebra Mussel Monitoring
In light of the recent findings at Zorinsky Lake (Omaha), we are continually seeking volunteers to help conduct surveys at area lakes for zebra mussels. Our hope is that by catching an infestation early, we will have a better chance of managing them.
Please contact me if interested in helping out!
Below you will find several items to download. Please review each of the documents and present any questions to me.
Outreach and Education STAY TUNED!

We participate in a number of public events each year educating folks about the damages that invasive species can cause. We often have an educational booth with activities for kids and lots of information for adults.

Other times we re in the field educating folks. Each year we participate in the Missouri River Clean Boat Event and educate boaters about aquatic invasive species - and how they can help prevent the spread. This year, we would like to increase this effort across the state and will be looking for volunteers to hand out brochures to boaters at area lakes. This is an effective way to get information to folks concerning zebra mussels and other invasive species.

The Nature Conservancy is looking for volunteers to help out with invasive plant control using the following methods:
Kill stick—using this device to kill small trees
Cutting larger trees—chain saw use required
Foliar application --targets would be , musk and Canada thistle, reed canary grass, purple loosestrife, Kentucky bluegrass, smooth brome.-- Provided they can operate a four wheeler
Digging musk thistles & garlic mustard (mainly this is in the southeast)
Most of this work would be done around the Wood River NE area, but opportunities exist at a near Lincoln and in southeast Nebraska.
