Thanks to the McPhee Helpers of Fall 2008

The McPhee Elementary School outreach program had another successful semester in fall of 2008. The following is thank you message to all those who were involved:

Dr. Brandle, John Quinn, and I want to thank all of the people who contributed to McPhee outreach through the school’s Community Learning Center, in-class visits or providing support for our efforts. Not only have you made our lives much easier, but you have enriched the education of children at McPhee by bringing your wealth of knowledge in different natural resource sciences.

Thanks to: Aaron Alai, Tony Barada, Mary Bomberger Brown, David Owens, Tara Anderson, Saddia Bihmidine, Neal Bryan, Julie Huddle, Eric Hunt, Aaron Lotz, Kevin McVey, Jane Okalebo, Courtney Quinn, Luis Ramirez, Lindsey Richters, Christine Thody, Amir Vafa, and Tyler Weishahn.

As many of you already know, we devoted this semester of CLC to water issues: water's properties, weather, quality, filtering, watersheds, and biodiversity. The students really enjoyed viewing aquatic invertebrates through the dissecting scopes and bug-boxes. We introduced the children to a lot of information this year and they seem to have retained most it! When we hung our various water posters in the cafeteria last Tuesday we reviewed material from previous weeks. It was great to hear the children rattle off facts about clouds, watersheds, biodiversity ... and they were so eager to show how much they know.

I know that students also benefitted from our in-class visits. The students are excited to see us and know that we will cheerfully answer their questions. Again, thank you so much for your help.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Ariana Jones
