Hi, I'm Doug Hallum, a Survey Hydrogeologist in the Conservation and Survey Division. I have the privilege of serving you from the West Central Research and Extension Center in North Platte.
My background contains a variety of relevant experiences, including recent investigations of the aquifer framework of the High Plains Aquifer and mapping the spatio-temporal relationships of groundwater and surface water along the North Platte and South Platte Rivers. I've done extensive work on regional accounting models across Nebraska, and have worked with a group of local, state and federal partners to collect light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data statewide to improve and refine our knowledge of Nebraska's topography. I helped the State of Nebraska develop integrated management plans, and interstate agreements to support water management policies. Before using my skills to assist Nebraska successfully engage in conjunctive water resources management, I ran a small business, consulted in oil and gas exploration, and consulted in environmental remediation and environmental site assessment. I began my career as an intern with the U.S. Geological Survey at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Commerce City, Colorado.
Since I have diverse experience, my interests are broad, and center on posing and answering questions from various perspectives. Primarily I am interested in water models and their relationships to physical reality; developing public policy from science and physical data, or from models; and government at various temporal and spatial scales.
