Hello, my name is Gary Bergstrom, Jr., and I'm an environmental studies major in the School of Natural Resources.
When I graduated from high school, I knew that I wanted to stay in Nebraska for my college education. I was also certain that I needed to find a major that would allow me to spend time outdoors and one that could cater to my interests in environmental issues and ecology.
After a little exploring, I found the School of Natural Resources' Environmental Studies Program.
I have enjoyed several environmental studies courses at UNL. In these classes, I have found professors that take a personal interest in their students. What's more, many of the projects that I conducted in these classes involved genuine “hands-on” experience with plants and animals.
In addition to these academic strengths, I have discovered that the School of Natural Resources can provide multiple internships and work opportunities for students in my field.
For example, I currently have an internship with the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department. When I graduate, I plan to remain there as a full-time employee.
Any student interested in the Environmental Studies Program should take the time to consider the possibility seriously. The discipline incorporates an array of disciplines and therefore produces students equipped to deal with multi-faceted environmental issues with an extremely well-rounded education.
