My name is Alex Hopp and I got the opportunity to work with the USDA-ARS during the summer of 2010. I got to be on a team that is researching how stable flies effect cattle production and how farming techniques are encouraging the development of stable flies. We ran multiple tests throughout the summer including a mark recapture study, trapping and counting flies, and also counting flies and legs of cattle with insecticide.  The goal is to develop new techniques of raising cattle that will not encourage development of stable flies that is economically appealing to the farmer at the same time.
