Hi, I'm Minako Ishibashi and I'm a fisheries and wildlife major in the School of Natural Resources.
I chose this school, because in Japan, where I'm from, there is no such major as fisheries and wildlife, and I heard that the School of Natural Resources' fisheries and wildlife major involved a lot of opportunity for field work and research.
I think the professors in the natural resources program are its most valuable aspect. They really try to know all the students in the program, and they give us advice by thinking of it as their problem, even if it's a minor problem such as deciding on a class schedule.
My main interest is in fieldwork, either in labs or as a course like at Cedar Point Biological Station along the Platte. I have just started an Undergraduate Creative and Research Experiences (UCARE) project this semester. I went on the Boundary Waters Canoe Area field class this summer in northern Minnesota, and I also was an interpreter for the Japanese Agricultural Training Program and helped with testing for chronic wasting disease in deer.
After I graduate, I plan to go to graduate school to get a master's degree.
