My name is Jason Thiele and I come from Clearwater, a small town in northeastern Nebraska. I am pursuing a major in fisheries and wildlife.
I chose this major because hunting and fishing have been a major part of my life since I was a child, and I want the opportunity to help others enjoy the outdoors for years to come.
Picking the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resource was an easy choice for me. Going to school at UNL has been a dream of mine for some time. In fact, it was the only school I visited because I felt so welcome the first time. I was very impressed with the CASNR faculty that I met on my various visits and I liked the general atmosphere. I really enjoy the fact that even though I live on City Campus and take classes on both campuses, I feel like a part of the same community. I know I made the right choice in picking UNL.
My future plans are still a little up in the air. Last summer I worked for the Upper Elkhorn Natural Resources District in O’Neill, Nebraska. My work included laying weed barrier for trees, inspecting chemigation (applying agricultural chemicals through irrigation) units for farmers, and taking water samples to check for nitrates and pesticides. I enjoyed this job and plan to take it again this summer.
My dream job right now, however, would be to work in wildlife management for a state or federal agency.
