Description:
Abstract:
From the early 1930's to the present, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Conservation and Survey Division (CSD) has drilled 'test holes' to examine the geology and hydrogeology of Nebraska. On-site sample description and collection of samples for analysis are major parts of the 'survey' mission. Over 5000 wells have been drilled as part of the test hole program. CSD geoscientists described the drilling logs in detail on-site. Reworking of the log and description are common, as staff and abilities change. This database emphasizes spatially referenced lighologic and stratigraphic data for the state.
Purpose:
To provide spatially referenced geologic data for the state of Nebraska.

Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
Testholes were initially located using legal description and footages from known points. The database coordinates were derived from a program that converts legal descriptions to latitude and longitude. Using ArcInfo GIS software, the point locations were plotted on 1:50,000 scale county maps and accuracy was checked against the original test hole logs. Any decrepancies were checked and edited accordingly. If a test hole was "relocated", the location was edited using ArcInfo. Once all points were properly located, the 'addxy' command was excecuted in ArcInfo to add the current and correct coordinates to the county GIS layer. County layers were then merged to form a statewide layer.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
Records in the database have been checked against the original test hole log books
Completeness_Report: The database is statewide and updated as needed
