Description:

Abstract:

The depth of the Precambrian bedrock across Nebraska has been interpreted by CSD geologists using data from 'deep' Oil and Gas exploration wells, and other sources. The down-hole depths of the various sedimentary rock formations were picked by CSD geologists for more than 19,000 deep wells. When the drillers hit metamorphic rock, that was interpreted as the Precambrian rocks of extreme age. This complex of metamorphic rock was difficult to drill, and considered to be an unproductive formation.

Purpose:

To summarize the depth to the 'basement' complex of metamorphic rock the underlies the sedimentary rock layers across Nebraska.

Depth to the surface of the Precambrian-age metamorphic rocks in Nebraska. It is 'deep' under other layers, and the raw data is highly interpretative. Sample sites vary from one or two per square mile, to more than 50 miles between samples. Seven counties in Nebraska have no deep holes, and the depth may have been interpreted from other information.
