The effect of a transition from prairie to forest ecosystems on soils in Nebraska

The goal of the project is to understand soil changes that have resulted from forest growth in Nebraska since ca. 1854.  We examine:

  1. soil morphology (e.g., horizonation, soil structure, pores, etc.)
  2. soil micromorphology
  3. soil physical and chemical properties at multiple sites

Our site observations are compared to similar but non-forested soils in the same area, on similar landscape positions, and on the same parent materials.
