Develop Long-Term Translocation Guidelines for the Black-Footed Ferret Population at Conata Basin, Badlands National Park

Steven Buskirk
David McDonald
Dept of Zoology and Physiology
University of Wyoming

Abstract: Reintroductions of black-footed ferrets into the Conata Basin/Badland since 1994 have shown excellent results in establishing a self-sustaining population in the wild.  Production of kits each year in this area has the potential to sustain a "harvest" of animals for translocation and subsequent release at other sites.  This project proposes to collect extensive demographic and survival data on this wild black-footed ferret population with the assistance of partners, and to have the University of Wyoming analyze data to develop long-term translocation guidelines for the ferret population.
