Ecology of Moose in the Northern Great Plains

Dr. Rick Sweitzer
Dept of Biology
University of North Dakota

Abstract: This project will conduct research on the ecology of moose on the Lonetree Wildlife Management Area (WMA).  Lonetree WMA has had a small population of moose living within its boundaries since approximately 1997.  Not much is known about the habitat use and seasonal movements of moose in the prairie habitat of the state.  This research will help our managing partner, the North Dakota Game & Fish Department, learn about disease problems, habitat use, seasonal movements and diets to improve management of the growing moose population.
