Abstract: As part of ongoing management of the new park,
the NPS needs to expand the nown information about groups
associated with the resources of MIMI. Information is
needed about civilian neighbors, construction workers,
activists, politicians, local ranchers and businessmen and
American Indians associated with the site and region.
Their stories have not been recorded, and the prior missileer
interviews do not cover all career fields or eras of the active
years of the site and its deactivation. This information
is critical to a balanced interpretive story for the park.
The objective of the study is to develop a documented basis of
knowledge from which park managers can anticipate resource
management issues, possible interpretive material, and
educational information that can be presented to the public.
This study will be based primarily on oral history interviews
and supplemented with research. Interviews should focus on
the themes of community history, and the social, cultural, and
economic interactions and impacts. A questionnaire will be
developed by the NPS & Prinicpal Investigator for use in the
field.
