Abstract:
Identify current
insect collection to best level, including genus and species
when possible. Provide oversight and assistance in the
collection of insects within the national monument for the
purpose of completing an above-ground terrestrial insect
inventory. Inventories through this project are expected to
yield not less than 60% detection of the true number of selected
focal taxa measured at the morphospecies level. During the
course of this investigation trapping, sorting, preliminary
mounting/preservations, and preliminary identifications may be
done by Monument employees when the PI or his representative
cannot be present. For all specimens collected, identification
will be completed by the PI or his qualified representative and
the results will be entered into a spreadsheet format to be
provided by the Monument. The Monument will purchase supplies
for the mounting and housing of insect collections. The PI will
be responsible for the final specimen preparation, including
labeling and mounting, of the entire insect collection. The PI
or his representative will prepare a report of the findings as
described in the full proposal.
