Abstract: This project will document the vascular plant
species composition of WABA. The project will objectively
quantify inventory completeness by using a master list approach
and by plotting the number of species observed against survey
effort after the fieldwork is completed.
Methods to be used in these surveys can be characterized as
standard natural history surveys. They will be based on
subjective searches of a representation of all habitats where
various species are likely to be found. Every effort will be
made to distribute survey effort across all habitats at WABA.
Then intent is that as many species as possible within the park
are located and identified. A variety of survey techniques and
sampling methods may be used, including visual encounter
surveys, plots, and transect line searches. Plants will be
tallied by growth form, average height, and general habitat
conditions. A small number of area plots will be used whenever
possible in order to obtain a measure of statistical
objectivity. Vegetation will be sampled at least two times per
sampling season for presence/absence, depending on the habitat
and information desired. Sampling is proposed for two field
seasons.
