Abstract: The NPS is interested in facilitating
improvements of animal radio-tracking to minimize intrusiveness
of research on park wildlife and visitors. The proposed white
paper will summarize and evaluate animal radio-tracking to
provide background for such improvements. The paper will
synthesize information about the types of radio-tracking
equipment available, including price, specifications,
reliability, and life and contact information for suppliers.
Advantages and disadvantages of standard radio-tracking vs.
satellite vs. GPS types of telemetry will be compared, and
suggestions made for areas of possible improvements.
