Abstract: Prairie
restoration is one of the priorities of
Scotts
Bluff
National Monument
.
Threadleaf sage (Carex filifolia Nutt.) is one of the
main components of the natural vegetation, but seeding methods
have not been developed nor are seeds available.
This experiment will assess the survival and growth of
transplanted threadleaf sedge as influenced by fertility.
Small sections of threadleaf sage sod will be collected
at
Scotts
Bluff
National Monument
, transported to the
University
of
Nebraska
, divided, and planted in
Cone-tainers. These
plants will be frown in a greenhouse and treated with four rates
of fertilizer. Data
collection in the greenhouse will include survival rate, rate of
growth, and biomass accumulation.
Following six months of growth in the greenhouse, the
plants will be transplanted at Scotts Bluff NM.
Survival and growth will be monitored at 3, 6, and 12
months following transplantation.
The experiment will be conducted in 2002-2003 and
repeated in 2003-2004.
