Anyone receiving a paycheck from UNL and all students or volunteers working in Hardin Hall are to complete two sessions of safety training from Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) as well as complete the UNL/SNR Youth Activity Training. All three can be done online.

Your advisor may determine that additional training is needed based upon the work you are doing. These include:

  • Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
  • Institutional Review Board (IRB)
  • Consortium for IRB Training Initiative in Human Subjects Protections (CITI)
  • Responsible Conduct in Research (RCR)
  • Teaching Assistant (TA) training - offered annually by Graduate Studies
  • Human Resources sponsored training:
  • Americans with Disabilities Act training (mandatory for supervisors). If you have supervisory responsibilities, you are required to complete the training for Americans with Disabilities Act. The Office of Equity, Access, and Diversity Programs coordinate this training. The schedule can be found at
  • Computer software training
    • On-Demand Learning Resources (Microsoft IT Academy):
    • Virtual Training Company (VTC) go to which should take you to the My.UNL login page. Enter your My.UNL username and password. Got to Click on the Save Link in the upper right hand area. You should see a "VTC Login and Information" in your All Files. In the Login Information.docx file make note of the username and password provided. These are updated each semester and you should receive an reminder of the change at the beginning of each semester (including summer.) Go to You'll see a silhouette of a person in the top right of the screen. Click on the silhouette and click on "login". Enter the username and password that was previously provided. Then you'll see the course choices.
  • Search Committee training (mandatory for anyone serving on a search committee). Before serving on a search committee, you must attend an orientation session, and then a refresher every two years. If you allow your certification to lapse for more than 4 years, you will need to take the orientation training again. Information regarding training for serving on a search committee is available at
  • Training Opportunities and Personal and Professional Development Opportunities can be found through the Human Resources website at:
  • Large Passenger-Van Training. Required to drive a University 12-passenger van. Contact Transportation Services to sign up for training, 402-472-2422.

Supervisors must attend Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Training for Supervisors, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Training, and Human Resources (HR) Training for Supervisors, and be familiar with SNR's Expectations of Supervisors.
