Description: Dark dorsal spots elongated. Light line along the upper jaw. No light spot on the tympanum. Call: A deep rattling snore of one or more syllables, lasting 1-3 seconds. Also low-pitched grunting sounds similar to dragging a thumb along an inflated balloon. Habitat: Wet meadows, river bottoms, lakes, and ponds; in summer this species often ranges some distance from water. Prefer to reproduce in fishless ponds. Diet: Dragon flies, mayflies, worms, insects Size: 5-9 cm (2-3.5 in) Natural History: This species often migrates from larger bodies of water, where they hibernate, to small shallow ponds to breed. This is the only leopard frog in Sandhills wetlands. Similar species:
