Common Garter Snake (Thamnophis sirtalis)
  Nonpoisonous

Description: Yellow stripe down the center of the back, and yellow or olive-yellow stripes down the sides. Irregular black and brick red markings occur between the stripes. Generally, olive, brown, or black coloration.

Habitat: Typically near water sources, however can be found in a variety of habitats.

Diet: earthworms, slugs, fish, tadpoles, frogs, and insects.

Size: 51-66 cm (20-26 in)

Natural History: Similar to all gartersnakes, the common gartersnake bears live young.

Similar species:
