Snake Keel Scale Patterns

Keel Scale Pattern

A keels is a tiny ridge down the middle of a scale. They can be so obvious that you can see them at a glance. However in rat snakes you have to look carefully to see the tiny ridges.

Keels of scales obvious on snake's back and sides.

Scales with small keels on middle of back only, scales on sides are smooth.

Scales are smooth with no keels.
