  • Back color:  dark brown, red, or gray
  • Belly color:  bright red or orange-red
  • May or may not have a gray, brown, or red broad stripe down its back

  • Open, moist woodland
  • Stream side forests

Diet

  • Slugs
  • Snails
  • Worms
  • Occasionally insects

Life History

  • Diurnal
  • Active season:  March – October
  • Breeding season:  Early – mid-summer
  • Gives live birth
  • 4 – 8 young per female
