Smooth Softshell (Apalone muticus)

Very similar to Spiny Softshell, but Spiny Softshell has dark markings on feet.

Description: Smooth, leathery shell, with no spines or bumps on carapace. No spotting on feet. Juveniles have streaking on carapace.

Habitat: Large rivers.

Size: Females 18-35 cm (7-14 in); males 12.5-18 cm (5-7 in)

Diet: Insects, fish and amphibians.

Natural History: Also known as “Pancake turtle”
