Description: Snapping turtles are a very prehistoric looking turtle, they have 3 keeled shell (especially noticeable in smaller individuals), which has a saw-toothed appearance at the back above the tail. Snappers have large heads and a long tail.

Habitat: Permanent bodies of water.

Size: Typical adult length: 20-36 cm (8-15 in)

Diet: Omnivous, plants, insects, worms, clams, fish, frogs, birds and about anything it can catch.

Natural History: Snapping turtles seldom bask in the sun, as do other turtles.
