The Nebraska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit is one of 39 units in 37 states that compose the national USGS Cooperative Research Units Program. The three-part mission is focused on education, research and technical assistance.

The role of the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources includes: Administering and regulating surface water including helping to assure compliance with interstate agreements; Directing floodplain management and dam safety programs; Operating the stream gaging program; Assembling and sharing natural resources data; Providing natural resources planning assistance to, and working closely with, local natural resources interests; Registering ground water wells and issuing permits; and Managing state cost-share programs to aid in proper use and protection of Nebraska's water, land, and related resources.

Rainwater Basin Joint Venture

The goal of the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture is to restore and permanently protect 37,000 acres of high-quality wetlands and 25,000 acres of associated uplands with adequate water and distribution to meet the habitat needs of waterfowl and other migratory birds.

Located in Austria near Vienna, IIASA is sponsored by its National Member Organizations in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. It is independent and completely unconstrained by political or national self-interest.
