Staff Awards and Honors
Staff (managerial/professional and office/service) of the School of Natural Resources are occasionally honored for their efforts.
- Sara Winn, Academic Advisor, Environmental Studies Program, received the fifth (Spring 2008) Staff Recognition Award.
- Bill Sorensen, Senior Programmer Analyst, received the third (Fall 2007) Staff Recognition Award.
- Ed Cunningham received a 5-year service award from the National Atmospheric Deposition Program (NRSP-3). Ed collects a weekly precipitation sample every Tuesday morning at 9 am, processes and ships this to the national laboratory in Champaign, IL Ed's continued support of the project has allowed the site at the Agrometeorology Laboratory at Agricultural Research Division Center near Mead to maintain its collection throughout the 29 years of the project. Starting this July another precipitation collector was added as part of the Mercury Deposition Network and Ed process this sample too. - Jerry Leach, Lead Groundwater Technician, received the July 2007 Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources Outstanding Employee Award for Office/Service Staff.
- Christine Steggs, Assistant to the Director, received the July/August 2007 Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources Outstanding Employee Award for Managerial/Professional Staff.
- Valerie Egger, Administrative Assistant, Nebraska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, received the third (Spring 2007) SNR Recognition Award.
- Milda Vaitkus (CALMIT) has been elected to the Board of Directors of AmericaView (AV), a USGS-funded nationwide program that focuses on providing remote sensing and other geospatial data to support applied research, K-16 education, workforce development, and technology transfer. Milda is the Program Manager for NebraskaView. As a member of the AV Board of Directors, Milda will participate in providing leadership for national program development, coordination with USGS and funding initiatives.
- Steve Ress, Water Center Communications, received the second (Fall 2006) SNR Staff Recognition Award.
- Sue Vosler, SNR undergraduate and graduate secretary, received the first (Spring 2006) SNR Staff Recognition Award.
- Carol Cartwright, Natural Resources Business Center manager, received the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources Outstanding Employee Award for Managerial/Professional Staff.
- Bernice Goemann, SNR clerical specialist with CALMIT, received a special gift of appreciation from the GIS/LIS Association at the Nebraska GIS/LIS Conference, an event held every two years for the regional geospatial technology user community. She was honored for her many years of work coordinating registration, mailings and logistics for this and previous symposiums.
- Chad Boshart, SNR GIS specialist, and Jeff Arnold, formerly SNR GIS specialist, received certificates of appreciation from the Nebraska Military Department for outstanding service to the state of Nebraska as members of the Governor's Homeland Security Planning Team. The awards were presented on behalf of then Gov. Mike Johanns, then Lt. Gov. Dave Heineman, now governor, and the Homeland Security Policy Group.
- Chris Chalmers of CALMIT, led a project for the Nebraska Health and Human Services System that received an ESRI Special Achievement in GIS Award. ESRI is a leading maker of GIS software.
- Christine Thody, one of the winners of the NCEA/ESP Scholarships. Each winner will receive a scholarship to help them further their professional improvement goals.
- Kelli Warren, former SNR research technologist working with hydrogeologist Ed Harvey, received the University of Nebraska Board of Regents KUDO award for outstanding service. She also received the Outstanding Employee Award for Managerial/Professional Staff in IANR.
