The Nebraska Invasive Species Advisory Council
The purpose of the Nebraska Invasive Species Advisory Council is to continue the work of the Nebraska Invasive Species Project by coordinating invasive species management and research across the State of Nebraska for the prevention and detection of invasive plant and animal species. Through a coordinated and well informed effort, we intend to provide land managers with the information needed to utilize funding and resources more effectively and efficiently. Our goal is to minimize the effects of harmful invasive species on Nebraska's citizens and ensure the economic and environmental well-being of the state.

Prairie Fire Newspaper
You may have heard them called alien, exotic, feral or non-native, but they all point to the same suspect: invasive species. For decades, humans have waged war upon a common enemy. Arriving in many different forms, often little is known about these elusive invaders until they make themselves apparent by choking out native flora and fauna, irreversibly damaging ecosystems and costing Nebraskans millions of dollars in control efforts. With examples such as the “snakezilla” (northern snakehead fish) and the “green menace” (emerald ash borer beetle) in the eastern United States receiving media attention, it is time we turn our attention to Nebraska.

Walnut Creek and Papillion South High Scool
Papio South High School in Papillion will be taking big steps towards understanding the healthy of their watershed. As part of an AP Biology class, students will get in the field and learn how to map and monitor these species around the park. This is part of a high school outreach program and the Nebraska Department of Education's Learn and Serve project.

Earth Day
Look for invasive species information at our display both at the Folsom Children's Zoo on April 26th, and at UNL's City Campus Earth Day Event on April 19th. Come and see what not to plant in your yard, and what native species are the cream of the crop!

Folsom Children's Zoo
Though early in project development, an interpretive dispaly and associated teaching curriculum is in production for use at the Folsom Children's Zoo in Lincoln. Keep a look out for opportunities to play fun games and create unique projects. This project is designed to familiarize children with the concept of invasive species and to foster a direct connection to ecosystem function and health. Invasive species are detrimental to ecosystems and it is important to promote awareness of these concerns, their impacts, and, most importantly, how we can help as a community to battle invasive species. Our exhibit will explain the impact of invasive species to grade school children using the "Ecosystem Invaders" theme, and youth will be guided through the display by our hero “Rescue Robin”.
