Aquatic Ecology and Limnology Laboratory

Welcome to the Aquatic Ecology and Limnology Laboratory

The Aquatic Ecology and Limnology Laboratory, School of Natural Resources, serves faculty, staff, and students with an interest in surface water quality and aquatic ecology. The laboratory is structured to provide services in three primary areas:

  1. Surface water quality monitoring services (including collection of water samples and water quality data),
  2. Chemical analysis of water samples, and
  3. Toxic algae screening.

The laboratory maintains a comprehensive collection of surface water sampling equipment and analytical instruments.

Aquatic Mesocosm Laboratory

The Aquatic Mesoocosm Laboratory an indoor 418 m2 (4500 ft2) temperature and light controlled experimental laboratory where temperature can be regulated down to 10osup>C and the light environment emulates the spectral quality of daylight in the photosynthetically active range. The facility houses 32 artificial recirculating streams (114 L) and 24 fiberglass tanks (1000 L) that serves research and teaching faculty and students with an interest in experimental aquatic ecology, emphasizing whole-community responses in stream and lake systems. The lab is also equipped with a 3800 L trailer-mounted tank and a 3800 L holding tank for the transport and storage of stream and lake water for use in the mesocosms.
