About Our Logo

Logo

The Nebraska Master Naturalist Program is proud to have the Burrowing Owl as it's programmatic logo. The logo image was decided upon through the assistance of our Master Naturalist Steering Committee, who have been dedicated to the success of this program every step of the way. To us, the owl represents wisdom and strength, two things that are highly evident in a trained Master Naturalist.

Our logo image is inspired by a photograph of a majestic male Burrowing Owl, created by photographer and native Nebraskan, Michael Forsberg. Michael Forsberg's iconic conservation photographs are recognized throughout Nebraska. His goal has been to try to capture the wild spirit that still survives in these wide-open spaces and put a face to the often overlooked native creatures and landscapes found there. His hope is that the images can build appreciation and go to work to inspire conservation efforts on the land far into the future.

We thank Sarah Rehme, our extremely talented artist who designed the beautiful logo image you see at the top of the page. As a graduate student of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Wildlife Ecology, she studies the habitats of grassland birds. Her talents are many, as her artistry can be seen in logos across the state.

It is through the dedication and talents of many individuals that our logo is possible. We thank you all!
