Job Title: Field Research Assistant (Spring and Summer 2012)
Job Description: A field research assistant is sought for a study of the pollinator, ground beetle, and ant communities in remnant prairie habitats in southeastern Nebraska. Successful applicants will gain experience in a number of insect trapping and vegetation sampling techniques and have the opportunity to work and interact with graduate students conducting research in community ecology.
Field assistants will be expected to work up to 40 hrs/week, likely including some weekends. Work will be conducted outdoors, possibly in inclement weather conditions, with variable hours. The project will run May to August, 2012 with exact start and end dates yet to be determined. The start and end dates may be flexible and housing may be provided. There is the possibility of extending the position to future field seasons.
Salary: $9-$11/hour, depending on experience. No benefits. Position is grant funded.
Qualifications: A valid driver’s license, and coursework in ecology. Coursework in insect and plant ecology is preferred. Experience with invertebrate and/or plant identification is desired although an interest in learning to identify prairie plants and invertebrates will suffice.
