2008 Student Photography Contest
During February of 2008, the UNL Wildlife Club held its first-ever Student Photography Contest. All undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Natural Resources and members of the SNR clubs were invited to participate. Over 20 students submitted photos in seven different categories. About 160 photos were received in all. The photos were displayed in Hardin Hall for a week, and students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the school were given the opportunity to vote for their favorites. More than one-third of the entries received votes for the “People’s Choice” award. The photos were judged by Bill Wiley, a local nature photographer. You can view some of his work at http://www.wmwiley.com/. He selected a winner from each category as well as an overall “Best of Show” winner. The winners received prizes and will also be recognized at the Wildlife Club’s awards banquet on April 12.
For another chance to see some of the great photos submitted for the contest, come to the Central Plains Severe Weather Symposium in Hardin Hall on Saturday, March 29. The Wildlife Club will have a display set up at the event. For more details about the symposium, visit the website at http://cpsws.unl.edu.
The club would like to give thanks to the people who made this contest possible, including:
- the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission for donating prizes
- ShopKo for donating a prize
- Bill Wiley for judging the contest
- the School of Natural Resources for allowing us to display the photos in Hardin Hall
And, of course, we thank all of the students for submitting such great entries! Keep snapping photos for the 2009 contest!
