School of Natural Resources

From Earth to Sky and Everything In Between

Introduction

Hello, I’m Jeff Albano, a graduate student in the School of Natural Resources pursuing a master’s degree in hydrologic sciences.

The study of water interests me because water is vitally important to society – we can live without oil, but we can’t live without water. Water is our most important resource, and with increasing population comes an increase in demand for clean drinking water.

My particular interests are in groundwater and groundwater remediation. I selected the School of Natural Resources primarily to work with my advisor, Dr. Steve Comfort. He is leader in his field. I want to be on the cutting edge of new technologies. I am currently working on remediating RDX (cyclomethylenetrinitramine) and TCE (trichloroethylene), with permanganate at the former Nebraska Ordnance Plant in Mead, Nebraska.

Following graduation I hope to work for a federal or private agency involved in the remediation of groundwater.

Before entering the graduate program at UNL, I earned a B.S. in Geology from the UNL Department of Geosciences.
