Elsie (Elaine) Connelly
My name is Elaine Connelly. I have been employed for approximately 15 years at UNL.
I started out at the maintenance department and then was transferred to FAC Mgmt; moved to ETV for NPRN until a funding cut; went back to city campus in the engineering department, then moved out to east campus approximately 5 years ago. I enjoy working with the climate group as Staff Secretary III, (Both my husband and I are weather geeks and have a grandson that also is a weather geek -- I am hoping that this translates into a career). My favorite tasks at work are arranging workshops, creating forms, tables, helping with travel arrangements, gleaning information from various technical and scientific web sites for use by the faculty and research assistants here in LW Chase Hall. I am intrigued by the Access classes that I am enrolled in. I hope to be able to use this database in the future for lots of different projects. I am willing to try just about anything once, (within reason). I don't think I'll by doing any skydiving soon though, nor will I be on Survivor or Big Brother, (I think I would go quite bonkers putting up with some of the people that appear on these shows). I am actually quite excited about the prospect of the move into Hardin Hall. Not the actual packing and unpacking, but going into a new building and having new responsibilities is something that I look forward to. Change can be quite stressful, but my personality thrives on change, therefore, I say the sooner the better. I think it may lead to some weight loss for me though -- when I am absorbed by my work, I can forget to eat.
It's the 32nd anniversary of my 29th birthday (I'm 61). I have been married to my husband, William D. Alexander, for 30 years; it is the second marriage for both of us. He is a flaming liberal and I am somewhat more conservative. WE DO NOT DISCUSS POLITICS. I am very adventurous in my food tastes. I did try Sushi, but did not find it appealing. However, I do eat Jaternice and Jelita, which are types of Czech sausages. We rehabbed a squirrel during the last year. He came to us during the last week of July of 2003. He lives somewhere in one of the trees close to our house and comes down regularly for a treat and a play session. Although, since it is breeding season for squirrels, he is much more interested in the girl squirrels than he is in us. (We have a lot of digital pics of Zippy and also some video cam tape. If anyone is interested, please let me know. I do not know if anyone studies squirrels or not, but I can tell you that they are quite intelligent but fiercely independent.) Hmm, maybe that says something about me instead.
We have six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. One of the grandsons is in the Marines and is due home at the end of July for R & R for a few weeks. He has served in Bahrain and is now at Guantanamo Bay. His stepbrother is going into the Navy this August. I am very proud of them. They choose to serve this country when so many in this country are unwilling to put forth any effort to defend it. I am anticipating that some of the step grandsons will be getting married soon and we will be adding to the great-grandkids branch of the family. I am grateful that I can still function well enough to keep up with the little ones (for the most part).
