Kelly Corman
Hi, I’m Kelly Corman. I’m a sophomore fisheries and wildlife major in the School of Natural Resources.
I grew up on a farm near Edgar, Nebraska, where I developed an interest in my major through fishing, hunting, and a love of the outdoors. I also participated in 4-H and Boy Scouts activities growing up, and this helped me become very interested in the natural world.
So far I’ve taken mainly general biology courses and will start taking the core courses in the natural resources curriculum next year, but I have joined the Wildlife Club. Some of the learning experiences with the club included electro-fish shocking, a non-lethal shocking technique for monitoring fish populations. Next academic year, I’ll be the club’s secretary, managing the email account and maintaining the web site.
Other key work-related experiences I’ve had include an internship with the Little Blue Natural Resources District in Davenport, near my home, and this summer, I’ll be going on the Boundary Waters field class to the U.S. Forest Service Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota with SNR students and professors. I’m also going to spend some time at the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch near Cimarron, New Mexico, this summer, where I’ll be teaching rock climbing.
I’m also interested in geographic information systems (GIS) and am looking forward to taking some GIS classes offered to my major. When I graduate, I want to be a wildlife biologist.
