From Earth to Sky and Everything In Between

Nicholas Dobesh Nick Dobesh, SNR fisheries and wildlife major.

Hi, I’m Nicholas Dobesh, and I’m a sophomore studying in the Environmental Studies Program as a fisheries and wildlife major in the School of Natural Resources.

Growing up on an acreage outside Columbus quickened my interest in natural resources. All my life, I’ve been doing chores outdoors, as well as fishing. I also have participated in 4-H tree identification and horticultural judging activities.

My experiences with my classmates in the School have been great, and the professors are nice, open and always willing to help you out. In addition, I’m a member of the Alpha Zeta fraternity and the UNL Wildlife Club.

This summer I’ll be working as an intern on Professor Dave Wedin’s Sandhills biocomplexity study, an interdisciplinary group of researchers looking at the interactions of climate, sand, wind, water and vegetation in the largest area of sand dunes in the Western Hemisphere. I’m also going to the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area in Minnesota on the SNR Boundary Waters Canoe Trip field class after the semester ends.

My career goal at present is to work for some government agency related to environment and natural resources with an emphasis on fisheries and wildlife.
