Hi, I’m Samantha Heckart of Ottumwa, Iowa, and I’m a junior fisheries and wildlife major in the School of Natural Resources.

I became interested in UNL’s School of Natural Resources because my major allows me to work where I want but also gives me a range of other career choices. In my course work, I have really enjoyed zoology, and I thought soil science was interesting.

Outside the classroom, I volunteer at the Folsom Children’s Zoo in Lincoln, am a member of Phi Mu sorority and work at C.Y. Thompson Library on East Campus part-time. I’ve also spent time in Costa Rica working in marine animal conservation as part of International Student Travels, a nonprofit organization that finds students volunteer work experiences abroad.

After graduation, I want to work in a park or zoo or maybe give wildlife conservation a try.
