Stacey Stricker
Hi, I’m Stacey Stricker, and I’m a natural resources and environmental economics major from Lincoln in the School of Natural Resources and the Department of Agricultural Economics.
I chose my major in something of a roundabout way. I originally was going for an Environmental Studies degree. I made that decision because I had always been concerned with and worked for the environment. When I came to feel that I wasn't narrowing in on a subject enough, I considered what type of work atmosphere I wanted and how I might accomplish my goal of steering decisions that ultimately affect our treatment of the Earth. I then decided to single in on environmental economics.
When I first started at UNL, I was involved with the student organization Ecology Now. I'm also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Golden Key. However, being a non-traditional student, I have a hectic work load and other responsibilities on top of my schooling that have, unfortunately, gotten in the way of being active in clubs. But for those with the time, I still recommend them highly.
Regarding faculty and courses in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, I've got to say I am very pleased with my advisor, Dr. Ray Supalla. I also enjoyed my class in the Department of Ag. Leadership, Education and Communication on the ethics of agriculture and natural resources. It should create a good foundation for many other programs.
I also enjoyed Dr. Gary Lynne's class (in agricultural economics) and hope to help him with an upcoming research project should he start one before I graduate. I’m looking forward to learning a lot from that kind of first-hand, real-world experience.
I will eventually go on to graduate school. I plan on eventually working for a private corporation and, hopefully, show them how they can be “green" and still be economically efficient.
