Extension Program
Introduction
The School of Natural Resources (SNR) provides research-based natural resource education and information for all Nebraskans, rural and urban. It is designed to enhance lives, families, and communities. SNR uses an interdisciplinary approach well suited to engaging the university's strengths with partners and stakeholders in natural resource education. Programs are conducted with the Extension Division and dovetail with its 12 issue-based action plans. Each plan has an interdisciplinary action team of extension specialists, educators, and others.
Faculty in SNR contribute in various ways to most of these action plans, with a primary focus on Natural Resources and Environmental Management. Delivery systems and products include publications, workshops, meetings, tours, print and electronic media, newsletters, personal contacts, computer and Internet programs, partnerships, and a variety of new approaches to meet specific needs.
One cross-cutting issue for SNR is sustaining a strong and viable natural resource base, which is critical to maintaining the long-term viability and productivity of Nebraska's agriculture, communities, and the quality of life for its people. Another is meeting the economic, social, and environmental needs of people and communities. A third is anticipating change and helping people understand and adapt to it. Below are examples of our extension educational programs.
