Web Programming & Database Examples
My very first project of this kind was to develop an on-line system for the Nebraska Forest Service (NFS) foresters to report their monthly accomplishments. It was a learning process for both learning ACCESS and learning ASP at the same time. Over the years the projects have been more sophisicated and varied. The following are examples of my projects:
- Nebraska Champion Tree Registry
- This website/database lists the largest trees of each species found in Nebraska. Current tree statistics are displayed along with an image of the tree. The user can also see previous statistics of the same tree or other trees that were at one time champion trees.
- Nebraska Wildfire Reporting
- All fire departments across the state are required to report to the NFS when they respond to a wildfire call. An on-line reporting form with a Google Map app was developed to allow the reporter to locate the fire from a Google Map and also report causes of fire, number of fire fighters, amount of equipment involved and property lost. The public can view where fires were located beginning January 1, 2007 and also causes of fire.
- Field Based Remote Sensing Equipment Inventory
- An inventory of instrumentation and it's location history are involved in this project. The calibration history of each instrument is also housed here. A calibration update report was also developed. This project has been duplicated for two other research/service projects inventory and expanded to an activity log. The web design format used the UNL-branded template.
- Concert Schedule and Music Summary
- The concert history for the Lincoln Civic Choir is held in this database project. Each concert's music selection is stored. The history can be searched by song title, composer or special guest artists/soloists.
- Amphibian and Reptile Identification Site
- Pictorial directory of amphibians and reptile including frogs, salamanders, lizards, turtles and snakes. Identification keys for important identifiers of animal. Identification quiz.
- Photo Gallery
- The photo gallery for this site is based off the example presented in the book I used to learn about database web programming. Search buy keyword or image title is available.
Databases
The Snapshot database application is an ACCESS database used to inventory trees in a selected area and define the quality and values of the tree population
