My Story

Andrew joined the NDMC in August 2020. He is currently serving as Graduate Research Assistant on an ongoing drought planning project in the Nebraska Republican River Basin. His responsibilities on the project involve researching and making recommendations to the partnering Nebraska Department of Natural Resources and the Natural Resources Districts throughout the planning process.

From 2016 to 2018, Mwape served as executive director for an environmental nonprofit organization that seeks to raise environmental consciousness and awareness in African communities through education. Between 2018 and 2020, he served as director in charge of operations at a forestry company that aims at conserving indigenous African forests by empowering rural forest-dependent communities with alternative means of livelihood apart from cutting down trees for charcoal burning. His roles included designing and facilitating community outreach programs that aimed at educating and informing communities on the importance of conserving forests.

Andrew holds a bachelor’s degree of engineering in Environmental Engineering from the Copperbelt University in Zambia. He also holds professional development certificates including Civic Leadership, Understanding Human Rights, Management Strategies for People and Resources, Responsible Leadership on Transparency and Good Governance, and Work Force Collaboration and Development. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
