My Story

Marshall Stuart with Fish

My name is Marshall Stuart, I am research assistant working toward a masters of science under Dr. Mark Pegg. I am studying movement of multiple fish species on the Red River of the North using acoustic telemetry. The Red River has several barriers that can impede fish passage and I want to explore how fish interact with these anthropogenic structures. My research will help inform what steps we can take to improve the connectivity of this system and others like it.

Growing up in Laramie, WY afforded me the opportunity to explore some truly wild places and have some great experiences with wildlife. These experiences directed my career path and I chose to attend the University of Wyoming, getting my BS in Wildlife and Fisheries Management in 2019. Through my education I grew my interest in conserving wildlife while understanding the demands we have on the environment. After college I worked for a state agency on several projects around Wyoming including native fish telemetry, native mussel reintroduction, species of greatest conservation need distribution, and several others. I’m excited to further my knowledge in hydrology, fish passage, and sampling methodologies for mobile fish populations at UNL.

When I’m not working I enjoy hiking, hunting and fishing.
