The Nebraska Forest Service (NFS) has been part of the University of Nebraska for over a century. From 1977 – 1998, the NFS was part of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Wildlife, a precursor of the School of Natural Resources. Since then, the NFS has been directly administered by IANR. The School of Natural Resources partners with NFS on several programs, including the new Regional and Community undergraduate degree. Together, SNR and NFS manage five University of Nebraska properties for forestry teaching, research and outreach. NFS staff holding an Assistant Forester, Associate Forester, or Forester faculty position are eligible for a courtesy appointment in SNR.
